Description

Introducing the Oakes Performance Solutions in association with Custom Code 3.0 TDI V6 engine ECU and Aisin/ZF TCU software for multiple Volkswagen, Audi, and Porsche models. This is one of the four featured sets of tunes from Oakes Performance Solutions based on the developmental 2012 Audi Q7 shop SUV with the CATA engine code and Aisin transmission along with testing on our clients’ 2015 Audi A6 TDI, 2014 Q5 TDI, Porsche Cayenne diesel, and VW Touareg diesel.
Performance gains:
Stage 1 ECU tune: 0.6 to 0.9 seconds quicker 0-60 mph times than stock.
0.4 to 0.7 seconds quicker 1/4 mile times with 3-5 more mph trap speed than stock.
Gains of 65 to 90 more horsepower and 35 to 90 more ft-lbs of torque than stock.
Stage 2 ECU tune: 1.1 to 1.4 seconds quicker 0-60 mph times than stock.
0.8 to 1.2 seconds quicker 1/4 mile times with 4-7 more mph trap speed than stock.
Gains of 90 to 120 more horsepower and 50 to 105 more ft-lbs of torque than stock.
Stage 3 ECU tune: custom tune to accommodate custom hardware changes such as bigger turbos, different diesel fuel injection components like a CP3 fuel pump and/or bigger injectors, custom intakes with a bigger MAF and/or MAP sensors, etc. These tunes will require logging to accommodate the changes to the vehicle and will be on a case by case basis.
TCU tune:
Shifts noticeably quicker and smoother.
Removes the factory shift hang ups between gear changes, especially the 1-2 gear shift along with correcting the factory clunky downshifts
Changes the gear shifting points for smooth seamless shifts in Drive and the best acceleration in Sport mode.
Holds lower gears longer during cold start up to warm the engine up more efficiently.
Keeps the transmission fluid cooler for longer transmission life.
Recalibrates and/or removes the torque limitations for better acceleration.
This is not a pre-diesel gate TDI flash but rather a complete overhaul of the software from the ground up.
The ECU tunes for these 3.0 TDI engines come in three stages to accommodate our customer’s needs. The ECU tunes will have options for if you want to install popular deletes at no additional cost. The TCU tune is required for the stage 2 and stage 3 ECU tunes because of the increased stresses on the components especially from the increased EGTs/Exhaust Gas Temperatures and to alter or remove the torque limitations for best performance.
At Oakes Performance Solutions we care about getting the power to the pavement so that is why we list the acceleration times first since they are the most important to us. The horsepower and torque numbers are listed after the acceleration differences because there are multiple occasions that can’t be shown on a dyno. We want you to feel the difference immediately after downloading the tunes the first time you drive out of your driveway! The reason that we list a range of acceleration differences and horsepower/torque gains is to accommodate the different engines and chassis used. For example the up to model year 2012 SUVs with the 3.0 TDI Clean Diesel engine will be towards the lower end of the acceleration time differences and power gains. As the later 2013 and later on model year 3.0 TDI revised and simplified engines will see the higher end of the acceleration time differences and power gains. The bigger acceleration time differences will be especially noticeable when tested on the lighter chassis vehicles like an Audi A6 TDI or A7 TDI since they are almost 1,400 lbs lighter than a similarly equipped Audi Q7 TDI.
For best performance we recommend performing maintenance servicing on these TDI engines such as replacing the engine air and fuel filters, fixing/replacing any clogged exhaust components, and manually cleaning out the carbon buildup from the intake air charge system. On higher mileage (80K miles or more) TDIs we have seen the charge air coolers (commonly referred to as intercoolers), intake manifolds, and intake valves covered in oily carbon buildup that prevents the full air mass flow into the engine correctly.
As a case study the 2012 Audi Q7 TDI shop SUV had the following acceleration time differences according to Dragy testing.
Stock after repairs:
8.88 seconds 0-60 mph time with a 16.37 seconds 1/4 mile time at 83.28 mph.
After downloading the stage 1 ECU tune it ran:
8.23 seconds 0-60 mph time with a 15.97 seconds 1/4 mile time at 86.32 mph.
Followed by after downloading the stage 2 ECU tune and TCU tune it ran:
7.72 seconds 0-60 mph time with a 15.60 seconds 1/4 mile time at 87.18 mph.
These tunes fit the following 3.0 TDI vehicles in the USA:
Volkswagens: Touareq
Audi: Q7, Q5, A6, A7, and A8
Porsche: Cayenne
For customers outside the USA there were many more options for vehicles equipped with these 3.0 TDI engines that we will happily tune such as:
Volkswagens: Phaeton, Marine engines, Amarok
Audis: A4, A5, S6, S7, and Q8
Porsches: Panamera
The ECU and TCU tunes are downloaded by you through our online Custom Code server that requires renting or purchasing one of our tuning cables. It costs $20 to rent a tuning cable after all the steps of the rental program are completed or $150 to purchase a tuning cable. The tuning cable rental program consists of a $150 core deposit plus shipping costs initially. Then after the tuning cable is shipped back in good condition within seven business days from initially arriving then $130 of the core deposit will be refunded. If there are any issues with downloading the tunes caused by Oakes Performance Solutions or Custom Code like a server update or file revision then that time delay will not be held against the customer.
